Join Team Chatham today! Description Do you have two (2) years of experience working with animals in an animal shelter or veterinary clinic, along with your High School Diploma or GED? You could be our next Animal Services Officer.
Examples of Duties Enforces animal service laws and regulations and responds to citizen calls and complaints regarding animal service issues.
Patrols an assigned area to capture and impound stray, nuisance, and dangerous animals.
Responds to dispatched calls/emergencies and investigates complaints of stray, sick, injured, nuisance, or dangerous animals.
Captures sick or injured animals whose owners are unknown and transports them to the veterinarian.
Recognizes signs of disease, abuse, or extreme distress in animals and notices details relevant to establishing the facts of a case.
Uses chemicals and cleaning solutions for quarantine and sanitation practices.
Prepares and maintains case reports on all animals, issues summonses to court on animal-related issues, and serves subpoenas for violations of Federal, State, and/or County animal control laws, codes, and ordinances.
May testify and present evidence in court cases or hearings.
According to health department guidelines, you will be trained to humanely euthanize unwanted, sick, or badly injured animals and dispose of deceased animals.
Animal Services is open seven (7) days per week; availability on evenings, weekends, and holidays is required.
Daily hours may vary.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma or GED, and Two (2) years of experience working with animals in an animal shelter or veterinary clinic; or Any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training.
Must possess the National Animal Control Association certification or be able to obtain certification within two (2) years of employment.
Must be able to become skilled in the procedure of administering intravenous, intra-peritoneal, and intra-cardiac injections when administering euthanasia drugs, along with the skill to reasonably estimate an animal’s weight when administering the injections.
Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
During emergencies and disasters affecting Chatham County, you may be required to report to work as part of a disaster operations team.
In accordance with the Department of Transportation, Commercial Driver's License (CDL) holders and those employed in safety-sensitive positions are subject to random drug testing.
