The Bryan County School System is accepting applications for Assistant Director of School Nutrition for the 2023-2024 school year .
This position provides leadership, support and guidance to ensure effective financial and business operations in the department of school nutrition.
Position Overview The Assistant Director will support the operations area of the School Nutrition Program by planning, implementing, coordinating, and analyzing the effectiveness of the program, ensuring compliance with Federal (USDA), State (GA DOE), and local regulations, policies, and laws.
The Assistant Director will assist with developing, setting, and implementing the guiding principles, goals and objectives of providing nutritionally adequate and quality meals to the students and stakeholders of the Bryan County School District.
Job Qualifications Holds a bachelor’s degree or higher in program related area (majors/areas of concentration: food service management, dietetics, family and consumer sciences, nutrition education, culinary arts).
Holds a School Nutrition Director Certification issued by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GAPSC) or willing to obtain within 5 years of employment.
Holds the Servsafe Manager Certification and Servsafe Instructor/Proctor Certification.
School Nutrition experience preferred.

Essential Job Duties Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance.
Assists in the administration and promotion of the National School Lunch Program (NSLP), School Breakfast Program (SBP), After School Snack Program (ASP) and the Farm to School Programs in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and policies.
Assists with the supervision of central office nutrition staff, site managers, and school nutrition workers under the general administration of the school nutrition program.
Works with the Director to establish departmental strategic plans, goals and objectives.
Communicates with stakeholders at all levels professionally and effectively.
Provides guidance, advice, and support to site managers in the development of production schedules, site productivity reviews, software system use, and inventory management.
Participates in the development of budgets for the department.
Monitors profit and loss of cafeteria operations of schools and assists the Director in developing and initiating improvements to increase cost effectiveness.
Analyzes data on the operations of school cafeterias for cost effectiveness and efficiency; works with site managers and workers to implement improvements and changes in service, food preparation, menus, personnel selection, and placement of equipment.
Ensures the adherence of school nutrition program federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations.
Assists in planning and writing of bid specifications for food, equipment, paper, and supplies.
Participates in product testing and evaluation of items along with the Director and other staff.
Works to ensure adherence of requirements for sanitation, safety, administration, and nutritional standards.
Leads the development of staffing allocations; provides input, guidance and approval of overtime or additional hours for assigned school nutrition staff.
Meets with employees and supervisors to investigate, resolve grievances, and address progressive discipline concerns within the School Nutrition Department.
Maintains employee personnel records and evaluations (i.
e.
pre-conference, mid-year, annual) in Talent Ed in conjunction with the Director.
Assists with performance management processes; evaluates the work performance of site managers and staff.
Participates in the planning and conducting of training and professional development programs for employees and stakeholders.
Makes recommendations and suggestions on facilities, equipment, layout, and design of new and existing cafeterias.
Collaborates with the Director on menu planning for the school district.
Attends meetings, conferences, workshops, etc.
as necessary to meet USDA Professional Standards requirements.
Assists with organizing student focus groups at all school levels.
Participates in administrative meetings as a key member of the district leadership team.
Disseminates information to staff and stakeholders in a timely manner through multiple channels and resources.
Works with the Director to maintain a cohesive operation, engaged community with annual involvement in activities.
Works with the Director to plan and provide wellness committee meetings and nutrition education sessions for students and parents.
Serves as a liaison between all vendors.
Provides support during Administrative Reviews.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
