1982 Catalina 22 "Bright Eyes" - $2,000 firm: All-or-nothing
“Bristol Condition” does not begin to describe this boat!
‘Cause it’s nowhere near Bristol! I’ve owned this Catalina 22 for 6-1/2 years and have done a lot of work
on her – some of it several times.
I’d get one system in shape, work would get busy, then I’d have to do
it over the next year.
Swing keel, pop-top, sleeps 5 (in theory).
Parts and accessories are readily available through Catalina
Direct.
She’s rigged for single-handed launch as well as sailing.
Roller furling, all lines led aft, plus a prototype
mast-raising system based on the Klacko Spars “Mast-Raising Magic” concept.
Comes with two 9.
9 HP 4-
stroke motors, which are too heavy for the design IMHO but that's what she has.
Boat registration through December 2026; trailer through Dec 2024

I don't intend to lie to anyone: She could be sailed right now, but needs work, has had work, and has
been in a continual cycle of: "prep for launch" -- uh-oh, life intervenes for 9-12 months -- rinse, repeat.
(Discoloration on aft-starboard quarter is due to well water from our sprinklers.
)
Needs all running rigging replaced (except halyards, possibly).
Rudder needs refurbishment.
Bottom and
keel need to be stripped and painted.
Cosmetic damage (dock rash) from Hurricane Matthew on
starboard toerail, midships.
New 135% Genoa with reef-padding and UV panel in ’17 (paid $800 - used once)
New mainsail ’21 (paid $650 – still in bag; never bent on)
Rebuilt trailer in ’17 with new tongue extension & tunnel; new axle; new wheels and tires; new
bunkboards; new fenders; new hitch coupler; new tongue jack; new lights; provision for
dropping the keel.
Now could use sandblasting and repainting.
Replaced masthead sheaves ‘18
Keel winch rebuilt; new cable; new keel hose ‘17
Replaced teak hatch slides and drop-board slides, refurbished drop boards (two sets) ‘17
Cleaned and serviced winches ‘19
Replaced one portlight gasket ’19 (includes material for the others)
Still has the original wacky sliding galley module with alcohol stove
Cushions may be useable, but more likely good only for patterns
Frame for Bimini; no fabric
Depth sounder with transceiver rigged in “temporary” configuration
VHF radio – never been sure whether it works
Parts not installed: keel-lock bolt, improved stem fitting, furling line
Miscellaneous fenders, anchors, boathooks, etc.
Honda 9.
9 4-stroke high-thrust outboard (2001?)
Repairs to gear housing and new bearings, full water pump (housing and impeller), zincs, etc.
in bottom
end plus new ignition parts in ’22.
Ran at that time.
Have some spares, not installed.
Yamaha 9.
9 4-stroke outboard (late 80s-early 90s)
New parts in ’17 and ’18, ran at that time, did not run in ’22 (likely carb needs clean/rebuild – as I recall,
would run on propane)
I’m firm on the $2,000 price: I've expended three times that in various updates and repairs without
actually being able to sail her, and the motors and sails alone are probably worth $2K.
